Acer

Acer Inc. is a Taiwanese multinational hardware and electronics corporation which is specialised in advanced electronical technologies. Acer is one of the largest electronics manufacturers in the world.

Acer was founded under the name Multitech in 1976 by Stan Shih, his wife Carolyn Yeh and five other business partners. In the beginning, Multitech functioned predominantly as a vendor for electronical components or as a consultant for microprocessor technologies. In 1981, the company launched the Micro-Professor MPF-1, an educational microcomputer that was designed for the user to learn to code with a Z80 processor. Multitech also made other computers, including an Apple II clone, before eventually entering the market with the IBM PC. The company was renamed to Acer in 1987.

Acer is a very successful company. As of 2024, Acer is ranked as the sixth-largest computer vendor in the world. Acer is also the parent company of several subsidiaries, including Gateway, Packard Bell and previously also eMachines and Escom.

Acer’s products include: desktop computers, laptops, tablets, servers, storage devices, virtual reality devices, monitors, smartphones and accessories. Acer also sells gaming computers and accessories under the brand name Predator.
