The PlayStation 2 (PS2 for short) is a game console from Sony Computer Entertainment that was released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in the United States on October 26, 2000, and in Europe on November 24, 2000, as a successor to the PlayStation.
The arrival of the PlayStation 2 put computer games in a much wider perspective. Compared to the PlayStation, the PlayStation 2 has better graphics, a faster engine and the ability to play DVDs, CD-ROMs and CDs. However, the discs on which PlayStation 2 games were released deviated from the standard. The PlayStation 2 can only read these types of discs, so people cannot use pirated copies or homemade software (aka homebrew).
