This model is a slimmer and lighter version of the Nintendo DS, to make the DS more stylish and appeal to different audiences. The suggested retail price of Nintendo DS Lite is 16,800 yen (US$140). Due to the lack of supply and high demand for the systems during launch in Japan, many Asian electronics retailers raised the retail price to 23,300 yen (US$200) on it. On some Japanese auction sites, the console was offered at prices as high as 40,000 yen (US$ 341)
