Kaypro II

The first computer from the American company Kaypro. Developed after the Osborne 1 became a huge success and the computer is modeled after this one. However, the case was completely made of metal, making it the first portable computer with a metal case.

Like the Osborne, it came with loads of software such as PerfectWriter, PerfectCalc, PerfectFiler, PerfectSpeller, and a BASIC compiler. In addition, some simple implementations of well-known games such as Star Trek, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man were provided, with the game parts represented in ASCII characters

Because of the included software, the price of which would have been higher than the computer itself if purchased separately, Kaypro became a very popular system for both professional and home use.

The larger screen and more storage capacity compared to the Osborne ensured that the computer quickly became a great success. So big that in 1983 as many as 10,000 copies were sold per month.

There is also a Kaypro 2 (so not the Roman numeral II) which only differs from the II in the supplied software.

The successor is the Kaypro 10 with a 10MB hard disk.
