Atari STacy

The Atari STacy is the portable variant of the Atari ST series.

The computer was released in September 1989, but production and sales stopped in 1991 due to lack of great success.

The STacy is similar to the Apple Macintosh Portable, a portable variant of a Macintosh with a built-in monitor and keyboard.

The STacy uses 12 C-cell batteries, however, a problem was that the STacy requires a lot of power and often could not run for more than 15 minutes. To prevent the use of rechargeable batteries (which in 1989 were much less powerful than the non-rechargeable ones), Atari decided to make these non-replaceable.

Thanks to the built-in MIDI ports, just like the Atari ST, this computer was used by musicians as a sequencer or controller.

There were 4 versions, the STacy had 1MB memory and 1x 3.5" floppy. The STacy 2 had 2MB memory. Of the latter there were 2 models, 1 with 20MB SCSI harddisk and 1 without. The 4th version was the Stacy 4 with 4MB memory and a 40MB SCSI hard disk.

The computer itself weighs almost 7 KG and around 35,000 units have been produced.
