The Game Boy Advance SP is a handheld game console, released in 2003 by the Japanese manufacturer Nintendo as part of their Gameboy product line. The SP stands for Special Project.
The Game Boy Advance SP was marketed as an improved version of the original 2001 Game Boy Advance. The SP features a built-in backlight, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and an all-new design. The game console is now foldable to save space and protect the LCD screen when not in use.
