In Donkey Kong II, the player controls Donkey Kong Jr. as his father Donkey Kong is locked up by four chains. He must grab four keys, one by one, climb to the top screen and use them to unlock the chains, freeing his father. Meanwhile, he has to avoid hazards such as crocodiles, birds, and electrical wires. When Donkey Kong is freed, the game will restart at a faster pace.
