Rescued the Titanic
Back in 2019, our good friend Perifractic found an Amiga 4000 which was used for the movie Titanic (1997). The mainboard was damaged (and also the PSU after testing…) but the data on both harddisks was saved and uploaded to archive.org. Thanks to Marvin Droogsma, the machine was put in the HomeComputerMuseum where it is on permanent display with a Youtube loop of Perifractic’s video (which we can do full karaoke to now).
We got a message that the image of the PAR-drive (the harddisk with the video images) on archive.org wasn’t complete and pretty much unusable in this way.
Because we have both harddisks and the knowledge and hardware to read data (which we also do regularly as part of the Digital Heritage Network / Netwerk Digitaal Erfgoed ), we create a new image and reconstructed the missing data (using dd_rescue). We have managed to get 99,96% fully restored where it’s confirmed that the last 0,04% of bad sectors is in the non-used space of the harddisk.
You can download the (.img) image at archive.org for free.
We are not getting paid for this, nor do we receive any subsidy but we do have a lot of costs to pay for. Therefor we would really appreciate if you consider helping us by visiting us, become a Patreon or help us in any way as described on our webpage.
